I DID IT...{GASP!}

...I actually THREW AWAY a postcard I received through Postcrossing...{everyone gasp here!} The postcard depicted a picture/painting that was just GROTESQUE to me and, to be honest, I don't want to have to look upon the image again in the future while flipping through my postcard album. Sure it was from a "famous" Finnish painter, but we all know that all "art" isn't "art" to everyone. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, etc. Well, this beholder saw no beauty in this card and only evil, and I just didn't like it! I've never done this to a postcard I received. Never! But in this case, I just had to. Call it censorship. Call it whatever you want. I'm a firm believer that just because a person can think it up and draw it, write it, or say it, doesn't mean it should be drawn, written, said, etc. So in this case, knowing that I'd only get bad feelings and negativity in my spirit whenever I laid eyes on this postcard, I tore the corner of the postcard off to save the pretty stamp, and threw the postcard in the garbage! I don't normally throw postcards away, and I hope this won't deter anyone reading this from sending me one, but this one was just too evil looking for me...I won't even put a picture up on this blog to show you all 'cause I don't want to see it again when reading my blog! Let me just say to anyone who for whatever reason (whether you're a Postcrossing user, a friend from C'ville, or just someone who knew I loved postcards!) had a wonderful thought to send me a postcard, that I'll accept any and all postcards. I really do! I don't throw any of them away... as long as you don't send me images of DEMONS, that is.

So there I did it. I actually threw away a postcard I received. I never thought I'd ever do that...but, well, sometimes a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

My daughter Kelley got a really lovely postcard in the mail the same day. Which maybe emphasized the grotesqueness of mine. But isn't this one just lovely? I loved it, the architecture of the city and the city lights and all the various colors. And look at the pretty New Zealand stamps, too. This was from "Charliefred".

Was it a picture of "The Scream" painting?

How are things going?

Hi, Helen! No, it wasn't "The Scream. It's a little creepy, but not what I'd term "grotesque".

For inquiring minds, the painting was "The Defence of the Sampo" by Akseli Gallen-Kallela. Earlier in my Postcrossing ventures, I actually had received a nice postcard depicting a painting by this Finnish artist, so it's not the artist per se...just the painting. You can use your favorite search engine and will find the painting. Enjoy! ;-)
